Meaning: 

plan to do sth.

Examples:

  • 来年は日本へ旅行に行くつもりだ。I'm going on a trip to Japan next year.
  • 明日の飲み会には行かないつもりだ。I'm not going to tomorrow's drinking party.
  • 病院に行くつもりだったが、急用が出来て行けなくなった。I intended to go to the hospital, but I couldn't go because of an urgent need.

Meaning:

Examples:

  • 冗談を言ったつもりだったのに、彼女を怒らせてしまった。I thought I was joking with her, but it made her angry.
  • 「吉田くん、ちょっと物事を消極的に考えるところがあるんじゃない?」Yoshida, are you thinking about things negatively?
  • 「いやあ、自分ではけっこう楽観的なつもりでいるけどね。」No, I think I am quite optimistic.
  • 彼女は自分では美人のつもりだけど、あまりもてない。She thinks she is beautiful, but she is not very popular with boys.
