托福备考第1天——TPO听力材料精听分析(一)

说实话,我根本就不想碰TPO。

第一次托福考试完,都没做过一篇TPO的试题。

TPO买了一直躺着(还是在淘宝买的,后来发现TOEFL官网有卖,也不清楚什么区别),直到今天又拿起来了。

因为现在的目的只有一个,那就是精听!(我非常确认我是有些单词听不清楚,这个我就用听写的方式来进行了)

没想到TPO居然还有听写的功能,啊,这!(都怪我一次都没打开过这款软件)

老实讲,我以为阅读和作文会挺难的,考完才发现最难的是听力和口语。

然后考完试才发现——哦!原来TPO是TOEFL的100%还原(那我之前为什么要看一堆垃圾网课呢?)

TPO的第一篇听力

听写并纠错后的结果:

I'm supposed to do a literature review from my psychology course. But I'm um... having a hard time finding articles. I don't even know where to start looking.

You say said this is that for your psychology course, right? So your focuses focus is on?

Dream interpertation. Interpretation (解梦)(美 [ɪnˌtɜːrprəˈteɪʃn] 这个rə发的很快很轻,我听成了ɜː)

Well, you have a focus. So that's already a good start. Enn,Hmmmm..., there're a few things...eh, oh,wait! Have you checked to see for  if your professor put in  any materials for you to look at on reserve? (预留)

Ah..ha. That's one thing I did note know to do. I just copy an article, but I still need 3 more on my topic from 3 different journals.(期刊)

Let's get you going on looking for all of them those then? We have prented  printed versions of 20 years old  or so psychology journals in the reference section, these there are the ones published with in within the last year. Then, Let me going to I (这地方听不清楚,反正不是I) think about it. ... there's a journal named sleeping Sleep and dream...

Oh, yeah. The article I just copy copied is from that journal. So, I've got looking to look at another sourses other sources.

Okay. Actually, most of our materials are avalible electronicly available electronically now. You can access psychology databases or electronic journals and articles through libraries library's computers. And if you want to search by title with the word "dream" for example, just type nno it in and all the articles with...??? come up of the screen.  'dream' in the title will come up on the screen.

Cool, that's great. Too bad I can't do this from home.

But, you can! Whole of the libraries databases and electronic resources can be accessed through any computer connected to the university network.

Really? I can't believe I didn't know that. It stills sounds like it's going to take a while though, you know, going through other all of that information, all of those sources.

Maybe, but you arting already narrow your search done down to articles on dream interpertation Interpretation, so it shouldn't be too bad. And you probably noticed that there's an abstract or summary at the top of the first page of the article you copied. When you go into the databases and electronical sources, you have the option to display the abstracts on the computer screen. It's giving notes to desire  skimming those to decide whether or not you want to read the whole article. should cut down some time.

Right, abstracts!.They will definitely make the project more do about doable. I guess I should try out a  the electronic search while I'm still here then, you know, just in case.

Sure, eh er...that computer is for you free over there. And I'll be here until  till five this afternoon.

Thanks, I feel a lot better about this assignment now. ??? (分派的任务,这里指 作业)

我觉得这个听力应该有些年头了。(不会是上个世纪的吧)

语速不是很快,但是有些单词真的没听出来。

然后,典型的场景你与图书管理员的对话。

不过话说回来,西方的图书馆管理员真的什么都知道,你要查什么,直接问他就行了。(不像国内某些管理员真的就是找了些大妈大爷来看着)

听完这段语音,给我的感觉,这个librarian对论文是了如指掌的。

试题部分:

Why does the student go to see the librarian?

To sign up for a seminar on using electronic source for research
To report that a journal is missing from the reference area
To find out the procedure for checking out journal articles
√To ask about how to look for resources for a class paper


What does the librarian say about the availability of journals and articles in the lilbrary?
They are not easy to find if a professor put them on reserve.
√Most of them are accessible in an electronic format.
Most of them can be checked out for three weeks.
Printed versions from the past three years are located in the reference section.


What does the librarian suggest the student should do to save time?
Choose an easier research topic.
Concentrate on five journals.
√Read the summaries of the articles first.
lnstall a new program on her home computer.

 

What can be inferred about why the woman decides to use the computer in the library?

√She thinks she might need additional help from the man.
She does not have a computer at home.
She has to hand in her assignment by the end of the day.
She will be meeting a friend in the library later on.


Listen again to part of the conversation/lecture. then answer the question.

Why does the woman say this: "I can't believe I didn't know that."

She had forgotten about the information.
√She is surprised she was not aware of the information.
She is annoyed that the information was published only recently.
She is concerned that the librarian gave her incorrect information.

我觉得以上的几个问题,听懂了肯定是不会选错。(但是我觉得凭借经验也能全选对,因为这个Topic对于大学生来讲,非常熟悉)

怎么说呢,Abstract、Summary、Reference这些东西,毕竟即使你不认识,只要你写过毕业论文,不认识也认识了。

而听力部分的情景,你一定会在北美的大学遇到。(这也是TOEFL精明的原因)

非常地实用,提前帮你熟悉环境。(如果是初中生或高中生考这个Topic,也许就不太友好了)

不过毕竟有人要到毕业的时候,才知道知网是什么。(也许有些人毕业了,连知网都不知道是什么)

不容易听出来单词和短语:

  • focus is(我常理解以verb形式,没想到这里是名词)
  • doable (没写过这个单词,听成了do about)

不认识的单词:

  • Interpretation(解释、说明、演绎)
  • reserve(在这里指预留,而且是特指professor给的)
  • journal (学术期刊)(背单词的时候,总是理解成杂志,虽然是有杂志的意思不错啦)
  • assignment(作业)(因为是在大学,教授给的是assignment,不能叫homework)

不熟悉的地道的表达方式:

  • come up on the screen (出现在屏幕上)* (大概我会说appear)
  • It stills sounds like it's going to take a while though (it's going to 使用频率挺高的)
  • but you already (听到了,但没反应出来什么单词)
  • should cut down some time (节省时间) * (大概我会说save)(cut time真直接)
  •  just type it in (输入)(大概我会说input)(type it in这也是非常口语化的表达方式)
  • That's one thing I did know to do (这是我知道自己该做的唯一一件事)
  • Let's get you going on looking for... (get sb. going on doing sth. 应该是个惯用法)

虽然这次做全对了,但是我觉得恐怕就是因为上次 做了一篇类似的听力(还是听网课做的),觉得太简单,结果就放弃复习直接去考试了。这篇听力做对了,其实没有任何意义,这个Topic太熟悉了,即使不知道对话细节,只要知道Topic,那基本都能做对。(猜对)

然后,就是这篇,我反复播放听力,精听细节了,在这种情况下,仍然有听到但是不知道是什么单词的。(这部分学习很有价值)

不过即使听力简单,(长时间不听英语后)第一次过听力题可能,对话这么快,那么多内容进不了脑子。(听着听着慢慢发懵了)

然而这次是以这种听写的方式做对,没什么参考价值,下一篇再说吧。
